The next time you start a conversation with a harried business person, (one of those plenty-of-money, but no-time-to-live type), hand them these commandments for balancing themselves back to a real life! I actually, at one time, had these commandments printed on a business card to hand out.
It did raise some eyebrows! You can have some fun with this idea, however, a warning here…some people will NOT want to read them!
But, it was GREAT FUN non-the-less. So here is a list: You can use some of these, or add some of your own ideas. This will get your mind started:
1. Thou shalt find time to daydream.
2. Thou shalt pencil thyself in.
3. Thou shalt hire others to help.
4. Thou shalt make fitness a no-option rule.
5. Thou shalt arrange for delicious delays.
6. Thou shalt cut out some stuff.
7. Thou shalt get comfortable with dirt.
8. Thou shalt always say “maybe”.
9. Thou shalt hang out with friends.
10. Thou shalt take a vacation.
NOW… when they tell you it isn’t possible, ask them “WHY NOT”?
To your success…

I’m not sure if I’m balanced or not. Can you help?
I daydream about my business most of my time when I am not doing it.
I have penciled myself into lots of business appointments and projects.
I have a no fitness rule. (I think that’s what you mentioned.)
I eat lots of delicious goodies while I work at my computer.
I have cut out many TV shows so that I can remain focused.
I have grown comfortable with the mess and dirt in my office so that I can get stuff done.
I network constantly when I am out with friends.
I vacation every night around 11 pm to my bed.
Any advice appreciated,
Richard

Hi Robin & Judy,
This is my first time here….found you thanks to TSA.
Love your blog it looks and feels so friendly.
Great commandments… we all need to be reminded that there are more important things in life than work and earning money.
If people started enjoying the finer things in life they will find that they are much more effective in their business dealings too.
Thanks for the commandments.
Cheers
Bryan

It’s sad to think that there are people who really miss what life is all about. What do you have at the end of your days? The only if I’d haves and regrets. There is a tombstone that helps to keep it all in perspective and it reads – In no time there will be no time.
Thanks for bringing balance back into focus.

I like this one —> 3. Thou shalt hire others to help.
People drive themselves crazy trying to “do it all”. There are just times when it’s better to get someone with expertise to help you with things that are time consuming and challenging for you. When I need a graphic or header done, I hire someone to do it. As much as I would love to learn Photoshop and do it myself, there are simply more productive things to spend time on for me.

Great commandments! I especially like number 2 – thou shalt pencil thyself in. I’m guilty of erasing myself off my priority list and I’m paying the price. Making time for yourself is important to maintain a healthy and balanced (and happy!) life. Thanks for the reminder.

I love commandment 3… when this is in place and you have a real good team assembled around yourselves then all the other commandment will be easy to obey to… That is one I learned from Robert Kiyosaki… having a winning team on your side is half the success. Managing, or more directing your team to success is the other half. If you want you can see the B-I-Triangle from Robert here… http://meetalexanderpaul.com/?attachment_id=930
Thx Judy, for sharing this list!
All the best, Alex

That is quite an entertaining activity there Judy. I can imagine some people thinking, I work hard today to live life later. I hope they get to decide one day when ‘later’ actually is… Regardless, A change of mind-set for at least 5 min is still something.

Haha, is it wrong that I’m stressing about making sure I get everything on this list done? Great ideas, you’re right – we should all take time for delicious delays in life. Work will still be there when we get back.
