Are You Stealing Blog Images from Google?

There’s a chance you could be a thief and not even realize it.. and you may be displaying some stolen property right on your blog.

In the past few months, we’ve seen top leaders in internet marketing teaching in their videos the ease of which a person can simply grab any image they like/need from Google and use it on a blog, an ebook or an advertisement.

Here’s the short answer: It’s stealing. Plain and simple.

That being said, how is it that even the most law-abiding, rule-following people are often unaware that grabbing any image off the internet is not okay?

We think it relates to the misconception that once an image is put on the internet, it’s free for anyone else to use. The truth is, we don’t have the right to use an image we don’t own any more than we automatically have the right to use any ebook, article, blog post or website we find on the internet. Copyright applies to photos and graphics in much the same way it does for printed words.

That’s what we often say here in Texas…. “He’s all hat and no horse.” Sometimes, you might also hear “He’s all hat and no cattle.” The meaning, however, is the same. It’s said about someone who might otherwise be called a “poseur;” Someone who pretends to be something or someone they are not.

The internet is full of people like that. In fact, the internet makes it easier for people to appear to be something they really aren’t at all. You can see them in advertisements, product reviews, sales pages, social networking sites and more. You probably know a few. You may even be one (though surely not!).
